Reclaimed Heart Pine

Expand Close

At the core of the pine tree lies the darkest and hardest wood. Before the days of hasty forestry for a tidy profit, pine trees were able to grow to their full potential. During this longer growth span the heart wood of the tree had a chance to develop. The early harvesting of pine that now occurs has made this durable and beautiful wood a rare commodity. Heart Pine is strong and extremely stable with very little shifting due to changes in humidity. It was a staple product in America’s industrial revolution, used in the construction of mills and factories of the era. Jewett Farms + Co’s Reclaimed Heart Pine is salvaged from such structures.

This flooring blends light tones and features small scratches, some knots, nail holes and some insect tracts. At the time of the European settlement Maple and Beech trees were the most common hardwoods in the forests of the Midwest. Both Maple and Beech are medium density hard woods with very little color or grain variation, because of this the two species were commonly used together.

Reclaimed Wormy Chestnut

Expand Close

Wormy chestnut is a strong and easy to saw timber that was prized for its resistance to decay and was widely used in various applications. Jewett Farms + Co’s live-sawn Reclaimed Antique Wormy Chestnut wide plank flooring is strong and straight grained with color tones that range from light tan to dark chocolate. These reclaimed timbers prominently feature worm holes, saw marks and sound cracks. Reclaimed wormy chestnut is sourced from barns, houses and factories where, because of its strength and durability, it was used for just about anything – joists, boards or roof rafters.
