2018 is the year of organization. Whether you have a large amount of space to play with or you’re working on a more efficient floor plan, here are some tips to make the most of whatever space you have.
Pantries for form and function. If you have the floor space a well-designed pantry can solve all manner of storage woes. A floor to ceiling pantry provides a lot of storage space, if the area is deep then drawers are best so that nothing gets lost in the back. A full height pullout will also give a lot of functional storage space. A rolling ladder looks great and allows access to upper cabinets for those less commonly used items.
No ones perfect – sometimes the pantry is less than photo worthy. Rolling barn doors are a great way to close up a pantry and create a beautiful wall feature while cleverly hiding all your cans and dry goods.
In a Niche. Stealing a shallow storage space from where it otherwise would be wasted, like a corner, can be a great way to store small kitchen essentials.
In a Furniture Piece. Rather than adding a full set of cabinets to a wall, consider using a single hutch either as a built-in or a standalone unit anchored to the wall to create a pantry without filling in a whole wall. This can create a beautiful accent in the room, contrasting other cabinets a bit and becoming a focal point rather than just a functional piece of storage. This also opens up your kitchen design to varied materials such as reclaimed timbers.
In a Converted Adjacent Room. Converting an extra room off a kitchen into a pantry may be a better use of space than keeping a rarely used breakfast nook or den, especially if you realistically find yourself spending more time in the kitchen itself.
