The Design Center has Evolved
6 Min.The old school notion of the trade only, closed door design center has been replaced. The design center of 2017 is a mecca of unique, luxurious and innovative products staffed by knowledgeable, committed professionals. And everyone is welcome.
The Boston Design Center is leading the charge in the evolution of Design Centers, and we are thrilled. Jewett Farms + Co. moved in to the BDC in November of 2015 after careful consideration and much reasearch into the future plans of the building. As a local, small business we got our start working directly with home owners and although we now also work with many trade professionals, we will always love working with the people who actually use our kitchens.
However, we often run into misinformation about the BDC – so i’m here to clarify.
- The public is welcome to visit the BDC
- No appointment is necessary
- You do not need a designer to accompany you
- Many showrooms work directly with consumers as well as trade professionals
All are welcome. The BDC and Innovation and Design Building make for a pretty great field trip. The BDC has 6 floors of design showrooms with an extensive array of everything interior design. From fabrics, to tile. Antiques to contemporary furniture and of course the most beautiful cabinetry. The showrooms are open Monday – Friday from 9am -5pm. If you have a specific spot you want to visit (JF perhaps…) it’s a good idea to call ahead and schedule an appointment with them directly to get the most out of your visit.
Tour guides are not required. Visitors to the BDC do not need to be accompanied by a designer. Bring your bestie, your grandpa, your neighbor – or come alone. This is the most common misconception of the Boston Design Center, times have changed and the BDC is open to all.
Designers are available. The BDC can be overwhelming, with over 1,200 different lines that are constantly changing and updating, it’s easy to feel lost. That’s where the Designer on Call program comes in handy. Every Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm, a Designer on Call representative will be seated in suite 111 to assist new BDC customers. There’s no obligation and no cost for an hour of design expertise. Some of the furnishings showrooms do require a designer for purchase, the DOC program can be utilized for this purpose.
