Designing kitchens for real people is great – creating spaces that work perfectly for their specific needs and desires is fulfilling and creative and requires thoughtful resourcefulness. But designing a showcase kitchen? Now that’s just pure fun.
As we planned out the displays in our new BDC showroom the opportunity to be creative was immediately apparent. Jewett Farms is a custom cabinet shop so we don’t have a line of pre-designed styles that we manufacture. We build each project from start to finish, and each is unique. Our cabinetry displays are really food for thought, examples of our designs and craftsmanship to inspire each client’s dream kitchen. So, when planning the showroom, we got to choose our favorite design elements with no limitations – pretty neat.

We were also able to bring innovation to the space – you may not geek out on cabinetry hardware, but we do! And there’s some pretty cool stuff on the market right now. The most obvious spot for modern innovation was in our contemporary high gloss kitchen. This space is fitted with gorgeous space age Miele appliances (that coffee maker…sigh. I promise, a blog post dedicated to the phenomenal Miele pieces will be forthcoming).

The hidden hardware is the coolest of all. All the drawers have Blum Tip On so they open with a soft touch and, of course, close softly and silently. The upper cabinets utilize the Blum Servo Drive – which is really cool. A soft touch will open the hinged cabinet doors effortlessly, a touch of a button closes them again, it’s like kitchen magic. The shelf under the coffee maker pops out with a gentle touch, no knobs or pulls or holes are needed to open and close any drawer or door.

Hand crafted cabinetry is enhanced by well-placed lighting, it can be a lovely way to show off display pieces, or make your work space more functional. Our Hafele recessed LED downlights and under cabinet lights do both and are controlled with a remote, making them just that much cooler. And just for a bit of fun we added flexible strip lighting under our showroom reception desk that is not only remote controlled, but can also change color. That’s right, we’re hip.
While we truly love what can be seen in our showroom, the parts that can’t be seen are pretty outstanding.
