In 1720 in a small town in Massachusetts a Saltbox style house was built. By 1780 the Saltbox had become a Federal with the addition of a second floor. During the 1800’s a large barn was erected beside the house and the two have stood, side by side, ever since.
As the decades have passed this lovely home has seen many changes, on its street and in its town. The historic integrity of the house has remained and is nurtured still by the current owners. When the time came to update the kitchen the homeowners wanted to incorporate the open and spacious feel of a modern kitchen while still remaining true to the home’s historic roots.
The kitchen is full of light which streams in from a large skylight, a beautiful window over the sink and the lovely French Doors that swing open to bring the outside in. The dark glazed White Oak Island sits in contrast to the white, hand painted perimeter cabinetry. This stylish opposition is present again in the couple’s countertop choice, Barroca Soapstone topping the cabinets and Carrara Marble on the island.
The Butler’s Pantry is another creative space with a unique twist. The funky tile work speaks to an era of black tie and evening cocktails while maintaining a fresh feel and giving the couple a great amount of storage.
This space is wonderfully unique from the custom fabricated hood to the integrated butcher block cutting boards, and the Antique Oak floors which are perfectly suited to this historic house. Another chapter to the rich and detailed story of this home.
