2014 Boston Magazine Design Home Update – Reclaimed Wood Flooring5 Min.
For the first time ever the Boston Magazine Design Home is a net zero energy home. The home will feature locally sourced products, cutting edge technology and environmentally friendly appliances.
Jewett Farms + Co. reclaimed hardwood flooring is the perfect fit for this project. Our reclaimed timbers are sourced from barns, factories and other structures that are scheduled for demolition. Salvage crews go into these buildings and remove all usable wood – from siding to beams, floors, doors and window frames. If it can be saved – it can be salvaged!
From there the rough lumber is carefully graded, de-nailed, separated and warehoused until needed. Our floors are milled to order for maximum efficiency of this special material. Only once an order is placed are the boards kiln dried, defected and manufactured into gorgeous reclaimed flooring planks.
The Treat family chose Reclaimed Antique Resawn Oak for the first floor of the house. For the second floor they chose Live Sawn Old Growth White Oak. Our old growth flooring is traditionally milled from mature, fallen or standing dead trees, making it another sustainable and beautiful choice for the Design Home.
Unlike many of the features of the 2014 Boston Magazine Design Home, the floors will remain after the designers have gone home and the tours are over. So the flooring choice was not a decision to be taken lightly by the Treats or home designer Lisa Wasserman Sivan. This gorgeous, durable and sustainable wood flooring will be enjoyed by the Treats for many years to come.
This Fall the 2014 Design Home will open its door for four weeks of public home tours and 100% of ticket sales will benefit Boston Children’s Hospital. Learn more and purchase tickets here.
