New Old House Magazine + JF3 Min.
We knew that the stylish and simple kitchen JF designed and built in one of Newburyport’s oldest homes was pretty special – New Old House Magazine also thought so and featured this space in their 2015 Kitchens and Baths issue.
Writer Alexandra Pecci from New Old House interviewed both JF designer Matthew Lord and home owners Mickey and Linda Berkowitz for a full view on the evolution of design for this kitchen. Traditional materials such as reclaimed antique oak, weathered barn boards and soapstone counters juxtapose the more eclectic and contemporary elements like the floating shelve, carrera marble backsplash and polished chrome fixtures.
The overall feel of this space is one of simplicity – but creating that was no simple task! As Matthew explains in the New Old House article, the home’s history created many obstacles that required creative design and innovative thinking. One example of this can be seen in the custom designed overhead lighting, sustainable recessed LED’s built right into an antique beam – the perfect marriage of past and present.
Eric Roth’s lovely photos exquisitely showcase the stylistic functionality of this wonderful space.
