The 2016 Boston Design Week promises to be packed with more informative seminars, more innovative ideas and fun activities than ever before. From designers, design showrooms, kid friendly design, urban planners, interior and fashion designers, and more from all over greater Boston. Jewett Farms + Co. is so excited to be a part of Boston Design Week this year, we are hosting two events at our Boston Design Center showroom.
ART FROM CONSTRUCTION – Turning Off Cut Materials into Works of Art.
In the world of construction and cabinetry the pile of off cut materials start to add up, bucking the trend of our increasingly ‘throw-away’ society, Jewett Farms + Co. has joined forces with Maine artist Dave Allen to create art from construction materials that would otherwise have been discarded. Come to the new Jewett Farms + Co. showroom in the Boston Design Center to watch the installation of Dave’s art pieces made from reclaimed timbers and soapstone remnants.
Using materials that traditionally have a utilitarian purpose brings another element to these artistic works and adds a design element that is quite unique to a space. “Art like this can have a positive effect on the world, if only more people were exposed to it. It didn’t take too many conversations like these for me to realize that creating Art in this manner could have a powerful and meaningful influence on the world” Dave Allen, Stone Point Studio.

CABINETRY CONSTRUCTION + MATERIALS SELECTION
Fine cabinetry is a blending of craftsmanship and quality materials. If one of the two is not up to par then the entire design suffers. Jewett Farms + Co. founder Matthew Lord is giving a discussion on the craftsmanship of cabinetry construction and how to make the right material choices. Join him at the Jewett Farms + Co. showroom in the Boston Design Center and tour their new space after the talk.
The elements that turn a good kitchen design into a long-lasting and functional space are both the materials it is built from and the way they are constructed. Materials matter – but they can also be the most daunting part of the design process. Matthew Lord will the discuss the importance of materials, how to make the right choices and what to look for in the construction of your cabinetry.
This seminar will take participants through the build process of the JF cabinetshop, showing the level of detail required for true craftsmanship and will also cover a range of different materials and finishes. This seminar is a must-see for anyone looking to enhance their design skills with a deeper understanding of cabinetry construction.
Join us for light refreshments and great information at Jewett Farms + Co. Suite 626, Boston Design Center.
