Boston Design Week is fast approaching and the only problem now is deciding how many of the great events, shows and activities you can squeeze into the week! To help you make that tough decision we give you – the JF top picks for Boston Design Week 2016.
Kick off your week at the Boston Magazine Smarter Vs Bigger panel event on March 30th at 6pm at the Boston Design Center. I was on the panel for this event last year and it’s a ton of fun!
If you’re starting a remodel or new project then check out Design for the Environment – Sustainable Fair at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University on March 31st from 12-2:30pm
Friday, April 1st is a day to spend at the BDC – for the Boston Design Center Showroom Stroll and Sample Sale from 10am-5pm followed by the Design New England Magazine, Design Showdown Finalists Competition from 6-8:30pm
The weekend is jammed with goodies. The BDC sample sale continues, there is a walking tour of the city’s premier arts district, informative discussions regarding design choices in homes and underserved communities round out a Saturday full of activities.
On Monday, April 4th you can Challenge the Makers at Open Studio, IDB Maker’s Guild at the Innovation and Design Building.
On Tuesday the JF Showroom is the place to be as artist Dave Allen installs and discusses his custom art made from reclaimed off cut materials from the JF shop. Dave will be in the showroom from 10-4 working and chatting about his art.
Wednesday is all about Commercial Urban Farming and Design. Jessie Banhazl of Green City Growers will be at Ver-Tex discussing how New England’s design professionals are tackling commercial urban farming to grow fresh produce within city limits.
Thursday is a day we are pretty excited about -Jewett Farms + Co. founder Matthew Lord is giving a discussion on the craftsmanship of cabinetry construction and how to make the right material choices. Join him at the Jewett Farms + Co. showroom in the Boston Design Center and tour our new space and enjoy refreshments after the talk.
Friday’s pick is also very interesting Making Communities Through Culture, a special program at the AD20/21 Show presented by Sasaki Associates at the Cyclorama at The Boston Center for the Arts
Design Week’s last 2 days are also full of fun – you can get the kids involved at the Lebestiaire by Ionna Vautrin: Kids Workshop at the French Cultural Center, and support the MassArt’s 27 Annual Benefit Art Auction at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design,Bakalar and Paine Galleries. Or you can get a special BDW only look at historic design at the American Textile History Museum in this one-day special opportunity to tour exhibits which are currently closed to the general public.
