Creativity in the Right (Piano) Key4 Min.
As if we needed another reason to love the Seaport district of Boston right now!
You may have heard of the Street Piano Project, “Play Me I’m Yours” created by artist Luke Jerram which has been touring the world since 2008. 400 pianos have now been installed in 50 cities across the globe, from London to Lima, bearing the simple invitation Play Me, I’m Yours. The project has already reached more than eight million people worldwide. The project came to Boston in 2013 and was so successful that it’s coming back to the city this Fall. Close to 60 street pianos—all decorated by local artists and community groups—will be available for anyone to play and enjoy.
Where are all those artists working? The Innovation and Design Building is providing the space for all 60 pianos to be worked on – well done IDB. The Celebrity Series of Boston plans to start rolling each piano outdoors by Sept. 23, wedging them into discreet pockets of city neighborhoods as well as places with high foot traffic and visibility. They’ll stay out until Oct. 10 promoting creativity and community everywhere they are placed.
If you’re heading down to the Seaport, perhaps to peruse some gorgeous reclaimed flooring at the Jewett Farms + Co. BDC showroom, take a walk down the line to Suite 320W, 21 Drydock Avenue and peak in the windows at the gorgeous work being done. On September 13th all the pianos will be complete and they will start making their way to their new locations all over the city.
