Scotland Fields. A hidden gem in York, Maine.

8 Min.

Just up the road from the JF cabinet shop is a beautiful part of York, Maine that is a bit of a hidden gem. While the beaches and the lighthouses take the tourist spotlight, they are not all that this Maine town has to offer.

The marshlands and fields that are inlets for the York River are some of the prettiest parts of York. One property in particular (with a barn to die for) overlooks these ribbons of water, and has done so for generations.

Given its proximity to our cabinet shop I had been watching the property with interest as it went up for sale and was sold to Kittery contractor (and friend of JF) Adam Butler, of RiverHouse Carpentry. Adam’s plan was to bring the buildings on the property back to their former beauty and create a classic Maine wedding venue with a modern touch.

Scotland Fields, the name of this beautiful venue, has two distinctly different houses on it—a farmhouse that dates back to 1732 and a craftsman style bungalow that was built in 1908. And then there’s the barn. A multi-level timber-frame beauty that overlooks the tidal marshlands of York.

The actual fields, and there are 26 acres of them, run along the York river. And let me tell you, the view of the sunset from the fields is something to behold. In December we were fortunate enough to host our company holiday party at the historic farmhouse and I got a first hand view of the sunset from the kitchen window.

We are excited to see this beautiful York property worked on with craftsmanship and care. The work that Adam and his team are doing to preserve the original details and surrounding land will make this a very special event venue for many years.

Planning an event? Check out the Scotland Fields website. You can visit in person at their showcase on February 29. RSVP here. Stay up to date and inspired on Scotland Fields Instagram. And if you’re visiting York, Maine make sure you pop in to the JF cabinet shop as well.
