Designer spotlight: Lisa Teague

9 Min.

We are so happy to shine our spotlight on Portsmouth, NH designer Lisa Teague. Lisa began her career as a painter and has an undeniable talent for choosing colors that work together to create beautiful, cohesive spaces.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO ENTER THE WORLD OF INTERIOR DESIGN?

My mother was an interior designer. I grew up around beautiful things so I think it was a natural progression.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY TO GET WHERE YOU ARE.

I started my career as a decorative painter. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time working in Europe where I gained a lot of confidence. Eventually I incorporated furnishings and textiles into my wall designs.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

My own personal style is a bit eclectic. I like to incorporate unexpected elements to my own designs. I also like to live small so I don’t keep a lot of extra belongings. And all of my homes have original art.

WHEN IT COMES TO KITCHEN DESIGN, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 MOST IMPORTANT DESIGN ELEMENTS?

The kitchen really is the heart of the home. The primary factors aer how the clients live and entertain, good flow and functionality and beauty.

AS A DESIGNER, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE PROCESS?

Getting to know my clients. I pride myself on my ability to really understand what my clients are looking for and to create a space that reflects their own aesthetic.

IF YOU WERE MOVING TO A YURT IN THE WOODS AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE KITCHEN GADGET – WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Oh my gosh! I am not a gadget person at all. The survivor in me says a really good knife. The real me says my French press.
