One design element – three ways: The Coffee Station

9 Min.

Customization is everything. From the way you want your kitchen to look to the way things function, personal customization is what makes your kitchen truly special. Let’s take a look a one kitchen design element presented in three different ways, each to fit a unique kitchen style; the coffee station.

Traditional

This sweet coffee station is built into a counter cabinet and is purpose designed for all things coffee. Cup storage on the upper shelves. The coffee maker sits on a shelf that slides out for easy access, the cabinet has an outlet built in. Beneath the shelf is a drawer to store coffee beans, ground coffee, filters etc. The coffee cabinet has a pocket door that slides in out of the way while coffee is in action, and shuts everything away keeping the counter tidy and clear. The cabinet is placed between the fridge and sink which makes for easy access to milk and a quick clean up.

Modern

Ah, the plumbed in coffee maker – this one is made by Miele. It’s the next level in coffee perfection. This coffee cabinet was custom built to fit the Miele machine including the plumbing and power behind it. This cabinet has a shelf underneath which provides the perfect area for cups, milk and sugar, this one has a push close latch keeping it tucked away when it’s not needed. The cabinet above opens up (and the door stays up) and is the perfect spot to store extra beans as well as the cleaning supplies that a coffee system like this Miele needs.

Transitional

This nook is more of a beverage center than a coffee specific area. But it’s a great example of how we can utilize space to create stations in the kitchen. The drawers store tea, coffee, cups and glasses. There’s room for a coffee maker and an instant hot or cold filtered water machine, and of course a built in beverage fridge. One of the particularly nice parts of this nook is that it is out of the way of the work areas in the kitchen.

OK – a few more

We love coffee, and we’ve found that incorporating a coffee station into a kitchen design works for most people. Creating specific space for coffee and other beverages reduces clutter and maintains a better workflow in the kitchen. Here are a few more of our favorite coffee stations.
