7 Min.Melissa Sanabria’s story is pretty neat. What started as the documentation of a home project has blossomed into a thriving design business with a recently opened retail store. The evolution of Sanabria & Co. is a beautiful example of what can happen if you follow your passion.
Melissa’s design story began when she purchased an historic row house in Capitol Hill. As she began the extensive renovations Melissa also started to blog about the process. The blog, Pretty Little Row House, quickly became popular and readers reached out, asking Melissa to do small jobs in the neighborhood. One thing led to another and eventually Melissa left her job in the financial industry and put all her energy into interior design and Sanabria & Co. was born.
The design sensibility of Sanabria & Co. has roots in the renovation of row houses. In an interview with DC based Home and Design magazine Melissa said “I love old homes. The history is important to me. I think of the house as a client too.” Many of Melissa’s original projects were right in her own neighborhood, an intentional choice by Sanabria to work and live in her community.
Melissa deepened her commitment to her community when she branched into retail with Sanabria & Co. The Shop in Capitol Hill in November 2021. The Shop is a beautifully curated collection of home decor and furnishings. The Shop is true to Melissa’s tasteful blend of vintage and new products. With a welcome array of products that are sustainable sourced, made by women owned companies and found locally. Not only is The Shop beautiful, it is an example of retail that does good in the world.
Sanabria & Co The Shop will exist in partnership with the design firm. Melissa hopes that the shop will provide a place for community gathering, workshops and trunk shows. As well as being a source of inspiration for the firms design clients.
