A mudroom as stylish as it is functional

It’s March at our Maine cabinet shop and the weather is, shall we say, unpredictable. Snow, followed by a swift melt, a hard freeze and then some rain. The kind of weather that means that no matter what, you’re coming in the door with wet, dirty shoes and at least two different jackets. The kind of weather that truly necessitates a mudroom. But not just any mudroom will do. There’s simply no need to sacrifice style for function as this exquisite mudroom shows.

This lovely space is a great example of a mudroom that maintains the home owner’s personal style while still fulfilling all the requirements of a hardy storage room. The floor to ceiling mudroom cabinets are simple and sophisticated with micro shaker detailing. JF designer Paula and the homeowner worked together to find the perfect finish, the cabinetry is hand painted in Farrow and Ball Urban Bronze.

The cabinetry alone makes a style statement, and it does so while providing an incredible amount of storage. From winter coats and ski gear to sun hats and flip flops, every seasonal item has a place. The cabinet interiors include hanging racks, tall storage and roll outs which ensure that nothing gets lost. There’s room for everything behind the cabinet doors.

A seating bench topped with Rift White Oak offers a practical spot to remove boots. The large window allows natural light to flood in. Rift White Oak open shelving with baskets give a sense of intentional design, which because of the cabinet’s ample storage, don’t need to be jam-packed with things.

Herringbone tile with underfloor heating provides comfort and the practical benefit of drying puddles and wet shoes. And let’s take a moment to enjoy the walls. The black and white wall tile is both unique and gorgeous and is the final piece that brings this mudroom to the pinnacle of style and function.
