Making the most of your time with a designer

6 Min.

At the conclusion of our BDC Spring Market event Finding Your Perfect Paint Color, we invite everyone to come down to the JF showroom for some one on one time with our panel of color experts (as well as some tasty treats and a glass of Prosecco). Here are a few tips on how to make the most of your time with a designer.

identify

The first step to a solution is to identify the problem. If you are unhappy with a space in your home, take some time to figure out what it is that you don’t like. Don’t try to fix the problem (that’s what the experts are for!) Simply work on articulating exactly what it is that you don’t like. For example, if you’re unhappy with the color scheme in your kitchen, before you chat with Paula after the May 16th event, make some clear notes about what parts you don’t like and why. Having a clear idea of the problem will help your designer find a path to the solution.

Likes/dislikes

Now that you’ve established what the problem is, it’s time to mind-map outwards. Note things that make you happy in a space and things that don’t. These are not strict rules but more helpful guidelines that can be useful for your designer to work with you to find your style.

Photos

We all know the impact of an image. And if you’re struggling to identify exactly what you don’t love about your space, a photo can be very useful. Your designer will most likely be able to pinpoint the issues once they see the space. Even if you are struggling to put them into words.

Inspiration

We can find inspiration in the strangest places. Perhaps it’s an appliance that you absolutely love, a piece of art or simply a color sample. Make an album of pieces that inspire you and show your designer. They’ll gain insight into what makes you happy.

Chat, snack, enjoy a beverage

Attend our wonderful panel discussion during the Boston Design Center’s Spring Market and bring your ‘problem areas’ to our panel of experts after the discussion in the Jewett Farms + Co. showroom where we will have sweet treats and Prosecco and the opportunity to chat one on one with the designers. If you’re struggling with color choices or feeling uninspired, this is the perfect solution.
