NYC Update
6 Min.Progress is moving along at West 20th Street NYC. Our display cabinetry has left design, been through technical drawings, and is now entering production in our cabinet shop. The showroom itself has also seen big changes. Flooring (a lovely European White Oak) has been installed, overhead lighting is up, and the walls are freshly painted.
Developing community in a new neighborhood can be daunting, fortunately for us our Flatiron neighborhood is brimming with opportunities for new friends. Some of our longstanding partners have roots in our new hood, and the companies that are new to us have welcomed us warmly to what is now known as the Flatiron design district.
During our most recent visit to NYC, we made a detour to Secaucus NJ, the headquarters and slab yard of Artistic Tile & Stone to select the countertops for our display cabinetry. To say we were spoiled for choice is an understatement. The slab warehouse at Artistic Tile is awe-inspiring. Company president and Chief Sales Officer Lauren Cherkas patiently helped us explore every row and hundreds of unique and beautiful natural stone slabs.

Lauren then took us on a tour of the production facility where we learned, among other things, that 85% of the facility’s power comes from their rooftop solar array, all of the water used for the stone-cutting machines is sourced from rainwater collection and the stunning Artistic Tile mosaics are custom designed and hand assembled. This family-run company is passionate about its business and committed to producing the highest quality products. Needless to say, we got along great.

The following day we walked one street over from the JF NYC showroom to the Artistic Tile Flatiron showroom where Sales Manager Jason walked us through an incredible variety of tile and mosaics to find the perfect accompaniments to our cabinetry, and the countertop slabs we chose the previous day.

Another new partnership can be found under foot. The Oak flooring in our showroom was sourced from neighbors just a few blocks away, The Hudson Company, a custom mill specializing in wood flooring, paneling, and beams. As a vertically integrated mill, this locally owned small business controls every step of their process, from sourcing and deconstruction to grading and pre-finishing. Their attention to detail rivals our own.
As the space becomes more our own and design details come together the excitement is building for JF in NY. Stay tuned as we share more updates and dates for events in our NYC showroom.
