A kitchen is a special place

9 Min.

It’s been a big few weeks for the Jewett Farms + Co. family. Our first JF baby, the one who had a pack and play in our first office, and learned to ride a bike in our parking lot, graduated high school on Friday. Now we all feel old (just kidding!). As we sat around our kitchen island celebrating and reminiscing I was struck by how much more a kitchen has to offer than simply a place to prepare food.

The place we start our day

From a quick cup of coffee to leisurely Sunday morning pancakes, the kitchen is the first meeting point of the day. It’s the spot where we reconnect, check in with each other and work out the daily schedule.

This sweet counter coffee cabinet was part of a favorite project in Hopkinton, MA. This busy family manages work, school, sports and volunteer work and their kitchen is home base.

The place we gather during a party

It never fails. No matter how far you spread your festive areas, no matter where you put the food, people will always gravitate toward the kitchen. Why? Because that’s where the heart beat is

Another Hopkinton gem. This kitchen is born to party, the wonderful home owners love to entertain and feed their friends and family. The space has multiple work areas and bar areas perfect for entertaining.

The place where we nurture

The food that makes us happy, fuels our bodies and shows our families that we love them is prepared, cooked and dished up in the kitchen. From messy baking experiments with little ones to gourmet experiments on special occasions, our kitchen feeds our body and soul.

Situated on Newfound Lake, this family lake home often has upwards of 15 guests so big cooking areas are vital. There’s also a dedicated baking island for Gram to bake with her grandchildren.

The place we share

So many other areas in our homes are carefully arranged to suit specific needs for individuals. From home offices to bedrooms and gyms. But the kitchen is used by everyone in the house. Sure, it might just be to grab freeze pops and run back outside, but every family member is part of the kitchen at some point.

This beautiful Hingham home is ready to welcome it’s grown children back to the nest at any time, and take good care of the furry babies in the mean time.

20 years and counting

There’s a reason we’ve been doing this for so long, and why we’re still excited about every new project. Because kitchens are special places. Every new kitchen we design and build is as unique as the people who will use it. We can only imagine the memories and experiences that will occur in each JF kitchen, but we are so happy to be a small part of each one of them.

ps. here’s Henry, the original JF baby on his first day on the job. He’s continuing the tradition by working in the shop this summer before he heads off to college in the fall.
