Kitchen Island ideas that you probably (definitely) want

8 Min.

The kitchen island is a stalwart of kitchen design, it’s hard working, highly functional and can be designed to fit any aesthetic. And by no means should the kitchen island be boring. There are so many fun island additions that can make your kitchen island stand out from the crowd. Here are a few of our favorite next level kitchen island ideas.

double not trouble

This luxurious space has a more traditional main kitchen island with a sink and lots of storage. Behind it is a second island that is also the back of banquette seating, perhaps in this instance it’s more a sideboard but the idea works for other island applications.

Contrasting prep area

This wonderful large island has a butcher block counter on the area opposite the range for easy cooking prep. Drawers on both sides store knives and cooking tools and the slatted shelf underneath is perfect for pots and pans.

Open Shelving + counter support

Deep end cabinets support the seating area countertop overhang, and give a wonderful opportunity for a little open shelving. Perfect for display pieces, cookbooks.

gone to the dogs

Doesn’t your best buddy deserve a little custom design? How great is this dog dish area in the end of the island. Storage for food and treats, you could even plumb in a small faucet for fresh water – like this work in progress. It’s just waiting on the plumbing fixture and the doggie chow.

Baking station

Keep all your baking tools at your fingertips.A cool marble counter, integrated cutting board and shelving for storage. Another option for a baking zone would be to sacrifice some under counter storage an add a mixer lift.

All the storage

This lovely big island has double storage. The working sides have cabinets and drawers at easy reach while the seating side also has cabinets. These are not as easily accessible but they’re perfect for seasonal items and things that aren’t used frequently. The perfect spot for the Thanksgiving turkey platter and holiday baking tins.
