What we love for 2023

9 Min.

While many things remain the same within the traditional art of cabinetmaking, there are always fresh design elements that we absolutely love each year. I asked our designers what their favorites are as we look toward the kitchens of 2023.

First up: Color

After the last few years of dark jewel tones, our designers are seeing more earthy tones and a return to the classic white kitchen. Some of their color picks are Benjamin Moore White Dove, Swiss Coffee and Shiitake.

The 2023 Pantone color of the year is the very vibrant Viva Magenta, some years I can really see Pantone’s pick in a kitchen. But maybe not this one. However, if you’re looking for a softer version we are loving the Farrow and Ball color Setting Plaster – it might just be the pink you’ve been looking for your whole life.

Pocket Doors

But not your grandmothers pocket doors. We’re talking large and beautiful pocket doors that smoothly disappear into cabinetry without getting in the way. Pocket doors made of glass or wood, that allow you to have both open shelving or enclosed cabinets depending on your whim.

Integrated pulls

There’s something very sleek about a cabinet door or drawer devoid of knobs and pulls. The finish of the cabinetry is given a chance to be the star and the lines are smooth. An integrated pull feels good to use, saves you from the overwhelming choices of knobs and pulls and can’t be installed in the wrong place by accident…

Amazing drawers – but the inside

People are catching on to the importance of well organized drawers, and we are ready for it. We custom build drawer interiors to fit your needs. From horizontal dividers for your reusable water bottles and coffee cups, to custom sized knife blocks, spice racks, bread drawers, outlets and usb plugs and of course our very own favorite ventilated veggie drawers.

Still going strong

Some of our favorite design elements from the past few years are ones we believe will continue to play a strong role in the kitchens of 2023. For example, integrated cutting boards. There are few things more annoying than finding a place to store your cutting board, the integrated cutting boards solves that problem and brings a touch of natural wood to your base cabinets – functional and stylish, the holy grail.

Timelessness > Trends

We build our cabinetry to last a lifetime, so we are very picky with the way we design it. Design elements need to blend beauty and functionality in order to make to the cut. But just because an idea is new doesn’t mean it should be dismissed as a flighty trend.

We are constantly bringing new ideas to our work, many of which are born from the specific need of a homeowner. So while we may not follow the ups and downs of typical home design trends – we like to think that we are creating our own and that they are here to stay.
