Overview
From its stately position atop a hill, this home has seen many changes in its lifetime. When the current owner decided to update it, they approached the renovation as both a preservation and a transformation. The result is a kitchen that feels richly layered and intentionally evolved.
Inspired by the past
Paula Accioly designed a stunning Walnut hutch that was inspired by old English plate cupboards. This piece evolved into a showcase within the kitchen, featuring thoughtful and creative design touches. The plate dividers were made individually, ensuring each one was perfect and could also be removed for cleaning. The latches on the doors were salvaged clasps from the home's original exterior windows.
Similar but different
The layout of the kitchen was left mostly intact, including the 14-foot ceilings. One addition was a new bump-out window that brings the home's lush garden into the kitchen and creates a luxurious and deep countertop surrounding the sink. Handcrafted Walnut trays at the entry of the space serve as a catchall and a magnetic board for notes.
Colors and textures
A warm and unique blend of Walnut, "Green Smoke," and "India Yellow," as well as Calcutta Viola Marble, brings elegance and vibrancy to this historic kitchen. Pocket doors conceal Walnut pullouts and a sneaky coffee station. At the same time, all the small appliances have a place in a unique yellow stand-alone cabinet.
