Hillside St.

Hillside St.

Overview

After a devastating flood, the owners of this stately home chose to see the silver lining and create the space they had always dreamed of in their forced remodel. Paula Accioly took up the challenge and created a new floorplan in the kitchen that gave the family both more usable space and the English Farmhouse look they always wanted.

A room for family time

The anchor of this kitchen is the soapstone-topped walnut island. It provides an open workspace with ample room for baking with the kids, pre-dinner drinks, or catching up on work at home. Floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets offer storage for dry goods and small appliances, and the striking soapstone slab has been used to create a deep farm sink and a striking backsplash behind the range.

A fresh take on the English farmhouse

Despite its traditional design features, this kitchen feels distinctly fresh. Like the breeze fluttering the curtains on the windows, the kitchen feels alive and vibrant while firmly rooted in the classic utilitarian style of the English farmhouse. Many of the appliances, including the large SubZero fridge and freezer, are paneled, so they mimic the pantry cabinets on the opposite wall and flow perfectly into the banquette seating area.
